Company Legacy

In 1942, J.A. Bombardier founded his powersports company which was eventually called Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP). He started his business by manufacturing products like snowmobiles before diversifying into other areas like motorcycles.

In the beginning, the Can-Am brand name was used for the company’s line of motocross bikes, but during the late 1990s, their focus shifted to expanding their reach into the bigger powersports market, particularly ATVs. The Can-Am engineers focused on innovations, such as adding the TTI rear suspension to an ATV frame. In 2002, they further strengthened their presence in the quad market by releasing the first manufacturer-approved ATV for two people.

The next major innovation came with the launch of another Can-Am powersports vehicle, the Commander™ UTV that became popular as one of the most versatile utility quads. The Maverick™ came next, a sports UTV built for recreational riding. Today, Can-Am produces several sport and utility vehicles that can tackle pretty much anything you want to throw at them!
